Last night marked the last night of the Kaiser Chiefs‘ latest tour and where better to end the tour than with a homecoming gig in their beloved Leeds at the First Direct Arena.
Lead man Ricky Wilson was back to doing what he does best taking to the front of the stage to belt out the band’s hits as well as new tracks from their latest album ‘Stay Together‘.
In true Kaiser Chiefs style, Ricky was as energetic as ever throughout the show and seemed very emotional at times when talking to the 13,000 strong crowd. As always Ricky was climbing up the stage towers on each side, running through the standing crowd to perform at the back of the Arena and sitting on the barrier at the front of the crowd.
A lot of the set list included the majority of their biggest hits which included ‘Meanwhile Up In Heaven‘, ‘I Predict A Riot‘, ‘Everything Is Average Nowadays‘, ‘Angry Mob‘, ‘Never Miss A Beat‘ and ‘Ruby‘. The atmosphere was deafing at times when the crowd was singing along to the band’s hits.
Newer material such as ‘Press Rewind‘, ‘Good Clean Fun‘ and ‘Stay Together‘ were squeezed in between some of their older material. ‘Coming Home‘ was clearly an emotional track for Ricky and the band looked out to a very happy crowd to give the band a heroes return.
During the encore, Peanut, Whitey, VJ, Simon and Ricky performed ‘Oh My God‘ and a cover of The Buzzcocks’ ‘Ever Fallen In Love‘. Ricky ended the show by swinging into the crowd on a rope swing which no doubt thrilled the Health and Safety crew when putting the tour together.
Overall, the evening was a perfect end to an almighty tour for the Yorkshire band. The band bounced off the crowd’s energy throughout the show. If you haven’t managed to catch the Kaiser Chiefs live on this tour then they will be performing a number of show over the summer.
